So You Are an Atheist?

Many people claim to be atheists. Maybe this is your claim. I can sympathize with atheists in that we cannot see God, and so many bad things happen on this earth. You may think if God is good like the Bible says why do bad things happen to good people?

In truth, being an atheist is not logical. The definition of an atheist according to the dictionary is someone who denies the existence of God. But how can we say something or someone does not exist unless we are omniscient. It is an absolute statement that cannot be proven. Without God we are left in a quandary, there is no basis for saying anything is right or wrong, good or bad. We cannot even say that the "bad" things that occur on earth are bad. It would depend on the current definition of bad. Do you want to say that the actions of Hitler and Stalin were not evil? Their truth said what they were doing was for the good of the people and therefore good. Carrying this to its logical conclusion leaves all of society doing what is right in their own eyes, therefore, chaos.

So, logically the best you can say is that you do not think the existence of God is probable, which is of course a subjective thought. You may want to reclassify yourself as an agnostic - a more logical choice (see "So You Are an Agnostic?").
